Chabad Telethon in L.A is a prestigious event that occurred each year, produces on television Channel 13 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. I have been invited to appear there for 17 years. 1993 was the first time.
During the performance, I noticed a man dancing near me with a child on his shoulders, he looked familiar. After the show all the artists and producers went into another studio, which they turned into a dining room. In the room sat several people and one of them calls me to come to sit next to him, I went over and held out my hand, he shook my hand tightly and says: " wow I really like your music, you are a great performer ", I thanked him and asked "What's your name? " He simply answered Jon Voight… I asked Jon Voight? "Yes" he said.
I was surprised at his humility…he tells me that he would love for me to study at his acting school free of charge and also he wants me to appear in his movies
It sounded too good to be real. I started laughing and told him thank you very much but I have a family, a wife and 5 children, also do you really think I'm going to change Jerusalem for America? The inspiration for my music is there…. He laughed and said "I understand, you know how much I love Israel? I am very impressed by you so if you ever change your mind you can always call me ..."
Since then, almost every year I see him in the program and he still asks me, "well what do you say?"
I heard he visited Israel a few weeks ago to show support for people that were injured in the last terror attack in the south of Israel, and this inspired me to write in gratitude of Jon Voight’s solidarity with Israel.
